Heritage of the Sandomierz Land
The Museum in Sandomierz, the heir of the Museum of the Sandomierz Land from 1921, collects, processes, stores, and shares collections documenting the history, culture, and nature of the region. We protect traces from the Stone Age to modern times, promoting heritage through exhibitions, education, and publications.
In the Royal Castle, our seat since 1986, we organize permanent and temporary exhibitions, museum lessons, workshops, concerts, and conferences. We collaborate with local communities and folk artists, building historical awareness and making Sandomierz a living museum of Poland. We preserve unique monuments, such as the Sandomierz chess or the collection of sacred sculptures.
We continue the work of the founders – Karpowicz, Wilkoński, and others – who after 1918 enriched the collections with archaeological discoveries and donations. Despite wartime losses, reborn in 1956, we develop departments from Archaeology to Art, inspiring generations to discover the roots of the Sandomierz Land and the bridge between tradition and modernity.

Legal Basis and Statutory Tasks
The Museum in Sandomierz was established by the Order of the Minister of Culture No. 46 of April 18, 1956, and entered into the State Register of Museums in 1999. The status of a regional museum was granted in 1976. We carry out museum tasks in accordance with the Museum Act, with headquarters in the Royal Castle.
We collect and protect collections: archaeological, ethnographic, historical, numismatic, artistic, and literary related to the region. This includes the Archaeological, Ethnographic, Historical, Literature, Art departments, and the Restoration Workshop in the castle cellars, funded by the Minister of Culture.
We scientifically process collections through cataloging, conservation, and digitization. We make them available at permanent and temporary exhibitions, museum lessons, workshops, and through a library with 5359 volumes and Jesuit old prints. We conduct education, popularization, publications, and awards like Bonum Publicum, including the stabilization of the castle hill awarded with Sybilla 2002.
